Therapies I offer and issues I work with

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a technique for inducing a focused, trance state where you become more open to suggestions. Hypnotherapy is a suite of tools and techniques applied when a client is in a comfortable, relaxed trance state to bring about positive change. I am experienced in a wide range of hypnotherapy protocols. These mind-body techniques typically work very quickly compared to other approaches like talk therapy.

Hypnosis for unresolved physical symptoms*

Many of my clients find me or are referred to me because they have a medical condition that has not been resolved satisfactorily. For example, a broken ankle that has not healed as quickly as expected, or chronic pain lingering from an old injury that has long since healed. If you are experiencing an unexplained or chronic symptom, you may notice that stress makes it worse. You may even have been told that you will 'just have to learn to live with' a  chronic condition, e.g. tinnitus, IBS or diabetes.

Even with the diagnosis of a terminal illness, like metastatic cancer or ALS, it is possible to improve your quality of life by using hypnotic techniques to manage pain, sleep, stress, fear, and negative emotions.

*Please Note

It is important to make sure that there is no undiagnosed physical or medical problem underlying your issue. Please consult your GP for any physical symptoms you have been having before you work with me! I am not qualified to offer any diagnosis or medical opinion. I may suggest that you see a physician, psychiatrist, or other healthcare provider for a problematic symptom if you have not already done so. Please feel free to share with your doctor that you are consulting a hypnotherapist for your issue.

Walk and Talk

In 2019 I attended a 4-day residential course on taking therapy into nature, which I found very interesting and informative. Now I regularly incorporate nature imagery into my hypnotherapy sessions, but going outside to experience the real thing can be very beneficial. If you would like to walk and talk rather than meeting in an office or online, we can meet in a local green space for our session. Having nature as a backdrop works especially well for dealing with feelings of anger or anxiety, and we will use elements of the outdoor space as metaphors for what is going on in your life.

Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT)

AIT was developed in the US by Dr Asha Clinton and synthesises several psychotherapeutic modalities:

Psychodynamic: Understanding the unconscious process where our past experiences in significant relationships influence how we experience ourselves and others in the present.

Cognitive-Behavioural: Promoting healing through understanding and changing our beliefs and behaviours.

Transpersonal: Integrating the symbolic and spiritual to experience balance, wholeness, and access our own guidance.

Energy Psychology: based on the premise that everything, e.g. thoughts, feelings, memories, physical sensations and trauma, consists of energy. Trauma blocks the flow of energy in the body – AIT helps to release it.

AIT enables the therapist and client to:

  • Connect childhood experiences to recent trauma

  • Link mind and body symptoms of distress

  • Identify and clear whole patterns of trauma

  • Explore obstacles to being fully present

  • Identify and heal the damage to the client's spirit
